Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI)

360 Feedback Reports

Intercultural Development Inventory

Did you ever wonder about your level of intercultural competence or that of your organization? Do you wonder how effective your diversity training is in changing attitudes and behaviors? Research shows that level of intercultural competence determines success in businesses and organizations where diverse cultures are present.

The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) is a valid, reliable instrument measuring people's basic orientations toward cultural difference, which indicates the capacity for exercising intercultural competence. The IDI identifies the issues that are limiting or facilitating the development of intercultural competence.

Developed by Drs. Milton Bennett and Mitchell Hammer, internationally recognized specialists in the intercultural relations field, the questions were created from several years of observation and research and are based on statements made by men and women living in 29 different countries, across a full age spectrum.

Sarah Bergdahl is certified to administer this concise and convenient Intercultural Development Inventory. This includes the assessment itself, followed by focused feedback and customized recommendations for growth and development.

The IDI can help you:

Increase insights into self and others

Understand developmental issues related to intercultural sensitivity in organizations and work teams

Identify training needs

Develop awareness needed for a move to a new culture (multinational or diverse domestic environment)

Evaluate level of readiness to live and work in an intercultural setting

The IDI is administered to each individual along with a feedback session. The entire process can be completed in less than 2 hours. It can also be administered to groups anonymously to further understanding of developmental issues they are experiencing and predict issues they may confront in the future.

360 Feedback Reports

As an excellent leader you seek both positive and negative feedback so that relationship improvement can be developed in the most meaningful and effective way.  360 Feedback reports capture perceptions and observations from one’s self, management, peers, and direct reports, giving participants a comprehensive picture of consistencies, inconsistencies, areas of weakness and strength, agreement and disagreement.  These reports, combined with the follow up workshops, are cost effective and targeted ways to support the development and practice of leadership behaviors.

Main Street can help you and your organization by administering these assessments, facilitating the follow up workshops, and supporting growth through coaching and training.
