Why the
name Main Street?
The
main street of a town is associated with the center or heart
of a community. It is the place where human relationships
are played out. On main streets around the world some relationships
are fair and compassionate, some unfair and biased.
Though good communication is one key to happy, effective
relationships, people often hesitate to seek professional
help when it breaks down and conflict occurs. In addition,
immigration patterns are changing so quickly that main streets
are taking on a new look and requiring new communication
skills.
This intercultural communication, so rich with potential,
often shifts from interesting to challenging to frustrating
and even dysfunctional, if not well understood and managed.
Main Street Mediation and Communication Services is in business
to offer appropriate processes that meet the unique needs
of our clients. Our goal is for clients to feel safe, comfortable,
accepted and able to make improvements as a result of our
working together.
Main
Street Mediation was founded in 1996 after many years of
mediating community, workplace and educational disputes
in the state of Washington. The selection of the mediator,
coach or facilitator is an important first agreement in
the resolution of a dispute, and an important step toward
developing trust. We encourage clients to speak to several
professionals, and ask lots of questions before selecting
one to work with. Working with capable and dedicated people
is one way the client can influence the outcome. We believe
there is richness to be found in our differences, and our
services help build bridges among them.
Main
Street Mediation and Communication Services
is certified as a Women's Business Enterprise
by the State of Washington.
